Summary:
In
the article, “How energy drinks affect your body”, the
author explains what the effects that can be caused by energy drink. People used
to drink energy drink or coffee when they feel that their energy go down. The
article shows a study about drinking maximum four coffees has positive benefits
for health such as decrease the risks of diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
The author then said that the energy drink which has 72-150 mg of caffeine is
not a problem. But the large energy drink which contain up to 294 mg of
caffeine and different ingredients that largely added unknown such as taurine,
ephedrine, guarana, and ginseng. Next the author tells effects of drinking
energy drink on different parts of body. First, the brain which the caffeine of
energy drinks removes adenosine, which is chemical brain that helps people to sleep,
and “fight or fight” response are activated by fires off neurons. The second
part is blood stream that release more adrenaline which increases the glucose
into the bloodstream. Then, the heart beats faster and eyes dilate by the
adrenaline. The article shows a study that people who drink energy drink the
heart contraction rates increased up to an hour later. Back to the brain, after
increasing the glucose in blood stream, the dopamine level increased that trick
people’s brain and make them believe that they have lots of energy, but isn’t
the truth. The next part is skin which starts to extremely sweat and that
people will dehydrate themselves especially while they exercising, so the
energy drink replace body water. Finally the body could feel jittery, anxious,
and irritable because of their need to the water instead of energy drinks. Next
the article “Energy Drinks Affect Heart, MRI Scans Show“ shows that in the US, the number of people who visited the
emergency rooms because of the energy drinks was more than 10,000 – 21,000 and
involves young adults aged 18-39.
Commentary:
In my point of view, people have to be awareness about the energy drinks. I think if people change their life habits, they could stop drinking energy drinks. People need to be careful of their health, they have to do lots of exercise and drinks lots of water instead of energy drink. No one wants to be one of the people who got illness because of energy drinks.
